Privacy Policy

Last updated: 10 October 2026

This policy explains what data nikename.com (“Nikename”, “we”) actually handles when you use the site. Nikename is run by the Nikename editorial team. Questions or requests: [email protected].

The short version

  • No sign-up, no accounts, no passwords.
  • No advertising and no advertising cookies.
  • No third-party analytics or tracking scripts (no Google Analytics, no tracking pixels).
  • The site sets no cookies for ordinary visitors.
  • Your saved picks stay in your own browser.
  • Nicknames you generate or share are processed by our own nickname data service, together with your IP address, as explained below.

Data stored only on your device

The swipe deck and the “kept” list remember the styles you liked using your browser’s local storage. The feedback box also remembers that you already voted on a page. This information never leaves your device and we cannot see it. You can clear it at any time by clearing your browser’s site data for nikename.com.

Names you type and nicknames you share

When you type a name to generate styles, the name and your IP address are sent to our nickname data service, a server run by the same team that operates Nikename. It uses them to build the styled results and to limit abuse (for example, automated flooding).

When you press copy on a generated style, or submit a nickname with the share form, that nickname, the name it belongs to, and your IP address are sent to the same service. Shared nicknames may then appear publicly in the community list for that name, and we keep an anonymous copy counter to rank popular styles. The IP address is used for abuse prevention and is not shown publicly.

Please do not submit your real full name, phone number or any other personal details as a nickname. Contributed nicknames are kept until they are removed. To have one removed, email us with the subject “[Remove]” and the exact nickname text — we can find it by its text, since we have no account linked to you.

Most pages end with a short poll. A vote adds one to an anonymous counter for that page. To allow only one vote per page per day, a one-way hash of your IP address is kept for 24 hours and then deleted automatically. If you type a written comment, we store the text, the page and the time — not your IP address — and keep only the most recent 300 comments. Do not include personal details in a comment.

Server logs and security

Like almost every website, our web server records standard access logs: IP address, date and time, the page requested, browser user-agent and referring page. We use them to keep the site running, investigate errors and block attacks. Logs are rotated daily and deleted after about 10 days. A security plugin also records failed attempts to sign in to the admin area. Pages may be served from a server-side cache; this cache stores page copies, not visitor data.

Cookies

Ordinary visitors receive no cookies from Nikename. Cookies are only set for the site’s own editors when they sign in to the WordPress admin area. If we ever add advertising or analytics, we will update this page first and ask for consent where the law requires it.

Who receives data

We do not sell or rent personal data and we do not share it with advertisers. Data is processed only by our own web server and our own nickname data service, both operated by the Nikename team, and by our hosting infrastructure. We may disclose information if the law requires it.

Children

Nikename is a general-audience tool with no accounts. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 (or the minimum age in your country). If you believe a child has submitted personal details as a nickname or comment, email us and we will delete it.

Your rights

Depending on where you live — including under India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act 2023, the EU/UK GDPR and the California Consumer Privacy Act — you may have the right to ask what data we hold about you, to correct it, to delete it, or to object to its use. Because we do not run accounts, the most useful details to include are the nickname text or comment you sent and roughly when. Email [email protected] with the subject “[Privacy]”; we aim to reply within 30 days. You may also complain to your local data protection authority.

Changes to this policy

When what the site collects changes, we update this page and the date at the top. Related pages: terms of use and contact Nikename.
